Environment

Our strategy focuses on sustainability for success. Through glass packaging, we support a circular economy approach. We minimise waste, energy and water use, increase recycling rates and use recycled materials in production. This reduces our impact, promotes a greener future and improves cost efficiency and competitiveness.

We care about protecting the planet

Mastering Decarbonisation

Stoelzle’s carbon management involves four key aspects:

  • Purchasing of renewable energy and investing in own renewable energy production
  • Improving of energy efficiency and total energy savings
  • Increasing recycled content for all glass colours
  • Furnace and feeder electrification

We aim to reduce our Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 50% and our indirect Scope 3 emissions by 15% by 2023.

Recycling

The most significant contribution to our sustainability goals lies in increasing the proportion of external cullet in our products. Using cullet in glass production conserves raw materials and reduces energy consumption and CO2 emissions.

Circular economy

Stoelzle Glass Group is committed to the principles of circular economy, which drive our product and process design. Our focus is on minimising process waste and maximising resource utilisation. The use of waste heat as an internal energy source results in a reduction in environmental impact while still maintaining high product quality.

Driving Energy Efficiency Forward

As the production of glass is a very energy-intensive process, we must actively work to minimise our energy consumption. We are continuously implementing a range of measures to reduce energy consumption in glass production, which is highly dependent on the age and utilisation of the furnace, the product portfolio, the share of electricity used for melting, the type of glass and the share of cullet used.

A selection of the measures we have taken:

  • Furnace rebuilds
  • Waste heat utilisation
  • Lehr optimisation
  • Renewable energy and self-generation
  • Energy data management system
