Annual exhibition 2007

19th March to 31st December 2007

"Glass - Light - Design"

Along the lines of this title the Austrian glas blowing factory of long-standing tradition Oberglas Bärnbach bridges the gap between the historical and modern side of glass as well as between fantastic art work and simple functionality.

Established in 1805 in the heart of Styria, this glass blowing factory has dedicated main part of its capacity to produce high quality lighting glass. Hence this year's exhibition is dedicated especially to lighting and design and the glass museum is ablaze with the light of numerous designer lamps.

The exhibition is divided in 3 sections on a total area of 1200 sqm. In the first part you can learn about the history of glass and how mankind conquered fire in order to get light. It was more than just one step from using a pine chip to design sophisticated lighting glass.

In a second part you can see projects developed in occasion of a national design competition which had been made in 2006. Numerous young Austrian designers participated in this competition working on the topic GLASS-LIGHT-DESIGN. This infact had been the first of 3 events which have been launched in occasion of that topic. In autumn 2007 Oberglas Bärnbach organized an International Glass Symposium and hosted 5 internationally renowned glass artists who worked in the factory for 5 days to create extraordinary lighting glass.

The third part of the exhibition shows modern lighting glass from Europe's leading manufacturers of lighting systems.
