8th International Glass Symposium

From 29th August to 2nd September 2007 the factory Oberglas Bärnbach had the honour to host the 8th International Glass Symposium.

5 renowned glass artists - Rikke Stenholt, Helmut W. Hundstorfer, Theo Sellner, Rudolf Weninger and Jack Ink - worked for five days to create directly from the furnaces unique hot glass art objects on the subject of GLASS-LIGHT-DESIGN.

They were assisted in their work by seven glass blowers of the Oberglas Bärnbach team: Jörg Dittrich, Reinhard Dorner, Erwin Kalcher, Zdenek Kupcik, Stefan Preschan, Martin Martyniak and Markus Müller.

Many people interested in glass did not miss the opportunity to watch the glass artists during their creative work at the factory. Gallery owners, art collectors and aficionados experienced how liquid glass was formed at a temperature of almost 1000°C to become unique lighting glass objects. Together with a local lighting manufacturer the art objects have then been finished and exposed in the Glass Centre.

Saturday evening Oberglas Bärnbach and the Styrian Artistic Glass Association invited to an extraordinary factory evening. Almost 130 guests had a great time in a relaxed atmoshere and enjoyed the traditonal glass blowers' meal "Eisenfleisch" with potatoes and Styrian beer. Based on a long tradition this meal obtains its unique flavour being cooked directly in the annealing lehr at a temperature of more than 200°C.

Styrian music was the perfect background when Rudolf Weniger demonstrated once more his ability in using the glass blower's pipe manufacturing a huge floor vase. Dr. Cornelius Grupp, owner of Oberglas Bärnbach was very proud of his team and enjoyed his evening in the factory.
